Setting Spray: What Is It & How Does It Work

It's time to introduce our P.Louise setting sprays! Designed to lock in your glam and keep it flawless all day. Each one showcases its own purpose, and we'll break it down for you to see which one would perfectly match the finish and vibe you want, babe!

What Does Setting Spray Do? The Magic Behind the Mist

There's nothing worse than finishing your makeup, getting halfway through the day, and checking the mirror to see it's cracked or smudged. Well, babe, that's where setting spray comes in.

While each setting spray has a slightly different purpose, the mission is always the same:

  • Set makeup into place
  • To prolong the wear of your makeup
  • Melt powders seamlessly into the skin and leave you with a flawless finish
  • Make your makeup waterproof, smudge-proof and to reduce transfer
  • Hydrate or mattify, depending on your chosen look

Your perfect setting spray will depend on your skin type and the finish you want, whether that be a matte moment for oil control or a dewy glow for that all day hydration. Ultimately, they are designed to secure your masterpiece so you can slay all day and night.

Our setting sprays contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to boost hydration and keep your base looking fresh and niacinamide to help control shine while protecting your skin barrier.

Does Setting Spray Actually Work?

Absolutely, babe! Setting sprays contain polymers, which are long chains of large molecules that create a flexible, lightweight veil over your makeup to grip it to the skin, similar to glue. This helps to keep your makeup in place significantly longer while also making it waterproof, smudge-proof and making it look fresher, by melting down those powders.

How To Use Setting Spray

After completing your makeup look, you want to grab your chosen P.Louise setting spray Then:

  • Give it a shake
  • Hold it at arm's length, around 20-30cm
  • Spritz in a X shape then a T motion for an even coverage across the skin
  • Let it air dry
  • Remember babe, always have your eyes and mouth shut for comfort and safety

When To Use Setting Spray: The Final Step.

Your P.Louise setting spray is the final step to complete your makeup look after all liquids and powders have been applied. This finishes the face and keeps your look locked in. You can also use it throughout the day for an extra spritz of hydration and to refresh your glam, keeping your base flawless all day long.

Setting Powder vs. Setting Spray

While these 2 products go hand in hand, they can also be used individually to lock your makeup in place! Your setting powder will add a matte result, layering on top of your liquid products to keep it in place, while your setting spray is used afterwards to fuse those powders to the liquid and lock your full face in place all day!

Primer vs. Setting Spray

Think of primer as your first love—it's the foundation of your entire relationship with makeup. Use primer on clean, prepped skin before you even think about putting on your base. It's all about creating the perfect canvas, filling in those pores, smoothing out your skin's texture, and giving your foundation something to grip onto.

Setting spray however, is applied after you've finished your entire makeup masterpiece. It literally "sets" all your hard work in place, locking down everything from your foundation to your highlighter. So, to put it simply: primer preps your skin, and setting spray locks in your finished look. They're a power couple, a match made in makeup heaven!

Freqeuntly Asked Questions About Setting Sprays

Is Setting Spray Necessary?

A setting spray can make a huge difference in the longevity and overall look of your glam. If you're only out for a short period or don't have time you can get away with skipping it but if you need your look locked in, get it set!

What Can I Use Instead of Setting Spray?

Setting powder is a great option but it mostly gives you a matte look. If you want something hydrating then a hydrating mist is a good option to help settle any powders however it wont necessarily prolong the wear of the look!

Do You Use Setting Spray Before or After Powder?

This is generally only required after using powder, however it can be used throughout to set each layer in place.

How Much Setting Spray Should I Use?

A few light spritz across the full face is usually enough.

How Long Does Setting Spray Last?

Our Forever Set and Ready Set Slay last up to 12 hours. No need for pesky touch-ups, you can party all day and night!

Is There a Difference Between a Setting Spray And a Fixing Spray?

Setting sprays and fixing sprays keep your makeup locked in place, however a setting spray is more known to help melt the layers together and give a spritz of hydration to the skin, whereas a fixing spray is known for its long-lasting performance.
